Archive for Awards and Achievements

I’m really late in posting this but figured better late than never!

In February I won 3rd place in the wedding category at the Grand Imaging Awards for the Professional Photographers of America. It’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened in my career!!

This news article explains it best….

“Longview photographer Jenica Lemmons, owner of Lemondrops Photography, recently won a prestigious Grand Imaging Award from Professional Photographers of America (PPA).

Selected by an international panel, Lemmons’ image, “A Waltz on The Water” received third place in the wedding category at the Grand Imaging Awards held Feb. 2, at Imaging USA in Nashville, Tenn.

The event is the PPA’s annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.

“It’s a huge honor to win a Grand Imaging Award,” Lemmons is quoted in a press release. “It’s an incredible competition to be a part of. “

Winning the award left her speechless, she said.

“I got to compete with some of the world’s greatest photographers. To win such an award was mind boggling to say the least,” she said. “Competition is a great opportunity to push myself to be a better photographer each year. To be recognized is a huge bonus.”

Lemmons went up against stiff competition at the event — the best photography selected by a panel of judges at the International Photographic Competition (IPC) held in August 2014 in Atlanta.

I’m thrilled beyond words and winning it was absolutely surreal. <3

The other crazy exciting news is that my image was chosen to be part of “Team USA” in the World Photographic Cup. (it’s the ‘olympics’ in the photography community). Here’s a link to all the incredible work from around the world that competed in that competition….

Huge thanks to my friends and family and especially my clients for trusting me to capture their memories. I’m proud to say that this image was taken on an actual wedding day just minutes before their wedding ceremony. <3

This year I was absolutely honored to receive several awards including the PPW Wedding Photographer of The Year. I’ve been working hard towards getting my Masters with the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and entering print competition is part of the program. It’s been one of the most amazing/frustrating/mind-blowing experiences I’ve ever had as a photographer. I can’t thank my mentors enough for all their help the last two years.

Here’s my official press release;

The published a lovely article of me in The Daily news. Here’s that article.
And here are the photos!

So I kinda won a lot of trophies at the Professional Photographers of Washington’s annual print competition last week!!

I was absolutely BLOWN away with all the awards I received. See, previously I’ve only ever gotten “participants” trophies. You know, the ones you get just for being a part of the team? Yup. That was me. I played various sports growing and only ever got those “thanks for playing” trophies.  I was always just average at everything I did but I certainly tried my best. So at the awards banquet when they kept calling up my name for various awards, I was practically in shock. I honestly couldn’t believe it!!

Since I’m horrible with words, here’s my official “press release:”

SO yeah, I’m kinda stunned and excited to say the least!! My images will be going on to The annual International Print Competition next month. I’m hoping to have at least one image go to the Loan Collection but we’ll see how it goes!!

I’m currently working on getting my Masters from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA.org). I’m hoping to complete the program by 2015. All of the merits I earn in print competition help me earn my Masters (as well as several other merits I have to earn through various sources). It’s a very busy and exciting time. I’m so thankful to all the fellow photographers who are helping me on my journey. I cannot thank them enough for all the help they’ve been giving me. SUPER big thanks to all those who have been taking the time to mentor me and help me in my journey.

Here’s a cheesy photo of me with all my trophies!!

I got the best voicemail this morning from a sweet lady that informed me my image I submitted to the PPA International Print Competition scored high and was selected to go to the Loan Collection. I was BLOWN away with the news as this was my first competition I’ve entered. The competition is fierce and people from around the world enter their best work.

Here’s how to explain what that means:

“The PPA Loan Collection is a compilation of photographic images judged to represent the elite within their entry classification. To achieve this distinction, a panel of more than 40 eminent photographers from across the United States uses a rigid 100-point scale to evaluate each of the approximately 5,000 entries submitted to PPA’s International Print Competition.

Images accepted into the prestigious PPA Loan Collection are considered the top entries from the PPA General Collection or “the best of the best.” ”

The loan collection images will also be published in a book and released later this year.

In Jenica terms (as I squeal with excitement):

“They really liked my photo so they decided to keep it and put it in a book!!!!”

And for those who don’t know, the PPA is the Professional Photographer’s Association. They are AMAZING and I’ve been a member for six years. I hope to one day get my masters with the PPA.
Anyhoo, thanks for letting me share my excitement. I am truly honored, excited, flabbergasted, and blown away.
