So, I’m horribly behind on my blog for regular sessions and weddings, but I just HAVE to post the most exciting thing that’s happened in my life ALL year!!!

My older brother (my only blood sibling, older by 18 months) and his wife, miss Natalie had their first baby on August 29th, 2010. I was photographing a wedding when I got the news that I was an auntie to one beautiful little girl. I cried when I heard the news!!!!

Because I’m so far behind in posting, I hadn’t even posted their maternity session yet, but I figured I’d do it now and introduce the prettiest little girl I’ve ever seen (other than my own!).

I’ll be doing their first “regular” newborn session next week, so I’m sure I’ll be back showing her off a little bit more

I photographed Matt’s older sister’s wedding. Remember this couple. Yup, GOOD lookin genes in this family. And now Matt is marrying miss Amanda who is STUNNING.

Their wedding is in May and I’m the lucky gal who gets to document their big day!! We did their engagement session at their property where the wedding will be held. They’ve been renovating this old barn in preparation for the big day. It’s just perfect and I love how they incorporated it into their engagement session. SO MUCH FUN!!!

“keepin it real”

SOOOOO, life is crazy busy. I often forget to take snaps of my kids (let alone share about them), but my main camera body broke, I bought a new one while I waited the repair of the old one. It came back yesterday and of course I just HAD to test it out on my kiddos. Not ideal lighting conditions, kids weren’t dressed for photos (in the slightest) but you know, I just didn’t care!!! I normally would put these in the “print later” pile of photos of my kids, but I want to keep things as real as possible here on my site. THIS is my life. These are my kids. Messy hair, two year old in diapers, and my middle child who refuses to be photographed, etc, etc. Too often I try to make things so perfect that I forget that life happens as it happens.

My aunt and uncle also introduced a new cousin into the world this last week and lucky for me I got to visit them and take a few photos!!! Of course, I MUST share how ridiculously cute she is!!!

So yeah, here’s randomness of my life the last couple of days (besides the normal sessions I do regularly)…

I asked my oldest to pose for the camera while I took some snaps (to test the camera) and she of course complied.

My youngest decided that he would pose the same way as big sister and this is what I got!!

Makes me laugh hysterically.

Of course they’re my kids so maybe you won’t laugh as hard, but it’s funny to me!!!

she has such amazing depth at only 8 years old.

Don’t even get me started at how scared I am for her to become a teenager. Oh holy cow I’ll need prayers!!!

He almost broke a window with the swing after I took this. Darn kid has more talent in sports at four than I did in my entire life!

After trying for kids for over ten years and deciding that they wouldn’t have kids, my uncle and aunt unexpectedly got pregnant.

It’s an absolute miracle, and watching them with their first baby just melts my heart. I love them dearly!!!

This little guy was the smiliest newborn I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. He snoozed right through the entire session and was just perfect. We ended up with about ten photos just of smiles on top of all the other cute-ness. He was 12 days old on the day of our session and such a good baby!!!

So this last month has been the busiest month I’ve ever had in my life. July is by far my busiest month work wise, but added on top of it was a whole bunch of craziness. Thankfully God is good and we’ve managed to stay sane throughout all of it!

Let me jump right in and explain all the busy-ness (yes new word. Dictionary of Jenica).

My dad met the woman of his dreams. (WHOOP WHOOP). Dad got engaged, offered to sell us his house (which is HUGE compared to the tiny house we owned). So, we thought, “yes, this would be wonderful, but how on earth will we sell our house in this market?!!” So we mulled over the idea and started our ideas for putting it up on the market. Not a week later, a friend of ours was looking for homes and I teased her about us selling ours. She responded “I’m totally interested, tell me about it.” So I wrote her a huge message about our house and told her how much we were wanting for it. She writes back and says it sounds PERFECT and could we send pictures of it to her. Ok, I guess. I tried not to get my hopes up about it, but took pics and emailed them to her. She writes back and says that they’d like to make an appointment to see it. So we cleaned up the house and got it ready to show them. They come see it and fell in love and decided that they wanted to buy it. At this point I was like, “Okay God, apparently this is all part of your plan and if it’s up to you, it will work out.”

Fast forward a week.

At the same time we signed loan papers with my friend and her hubby, we signed papers with my dad to buy his house. All is good and we move forward. We started cleaning up/painting/renovating my dad’s house.

Fast forward two weeks;

Got all walls painted, carpets and flooring put in, and helped dad move out all of his stuff. We worked day/night on our project since we were closing in 30 days. I cleaned/painted/renovated by day and edited by night. I did weddings/sessions in between and was tired. REALLY tired.

Two days ago we started moving into the new place and we’re almost done unpacking. After 12 moves in 10 years we’re moving pros.

One day ago my dog decided to kill a raccoon that invaded the backyard. $417 and 12 stitches later, she’s just fine. Not a moving expense I had planned on, but at this point ya gotta roll with the punches if ya know what I mean.

My dad is getting married on September 25th (and yes, I’m photographing the wedding, so you will see pics!!). He’s staying with us until he ties the knot. My kids are SUPER excited to be living in “grandpa’s house” and I’m sooooo happy to be able to have people over and not feel cramped. Today we had the family birthday party for my daughter and it was so nice to have everyone over and have plenty of entertaining space!!

So while the timing has been interesting moving mid-July with five weddings and countless sessions, but it’s all worked out.

Right now I’m working hard editing all the beautiful wedding photos from the last few weeks and I’ll start posting all the previews as quickly as I can. I’ve somehow by the grace of God managed to stay on top of my normal work throughout this crazy time.

I would like to publicly thank my good friends Rhonda and Lindsay. They have helped out more than I can even explain. They’ve cared for my kids, helped me move, and Lindsay has been my right hand girl with the house stuff!!! She helped me rip out carpet, make dump runs, and without her (and Rhonda) there’s no way we would have gotten this much done this quickly. They’ve been there with me when I’ve had my meltdowns, laughed with me and cried with me.

I’d also like to thank my dad for his AWESOME work remodeling the kitchen and making sure this house was finished for us. He has been so incredibly generous and I’m a lucky gal to have a daddy like him. I’m so incredibly excited for him to start his new life with his soon to be wife. They are a perfect pair and it’s just been incredible to see him this happy.

I’m blessed beyond words.

oh my goodness, I do this every year, but every time my baby girl has a birthday I get all weepy and amazed at how old she is!!!

Derrick and I had Keely when we were young and we traveled the world with her. She’s the one that introduced us to parenthood. She’s incredibly smart, beautiful and one of the funniest kids I’ve ever met in my life. She reads constantly (there’s never a moment when she doesn’t have a book in her hand) and she’s just plain cool.

I love you SOOOOOOO much Keely.

Katie & Dillon MARRIED!!!! Red Barn wedding photographer – Chehalis, WA

Katie and Dillon married at the Red Barn in Chehalis, Washington. A venue I’d never been to before, but hope to go to again. It was absolutely perfect and provided a fantastic backdrop for photos.

We did their “first look” photos at the Library in downtown Chehalis. It too was GORGEOUS and I could have spent hours just photographing them there.

I’m gonna be honest and say that this blog post has taken me quite awhile to finish. For starters, this couple is absolutely stunning, they had a GORGEOUS wedding where I took WAY too many images, and to top it off they are head over heels in love and every time they got together sparks started flying!!!

I seriously could post five more blog posts about this wedding, but I must get back to editing my other weddings.

Thank you Katie and Dillon for having me be a part of your day. Also a special thanks to Jan (Katie’s mom) for coordinating everything with me. You were awesome!!!

nine years…

Nine years ago today I married the man of my dreams. We’ve had three kids together, moved 12 times (thirteen times next month), endured military life for over 6 years, and we have been through more than I could have imagined.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

He’s a great father, great husband, great cook, and my best friend. He supports my dreams, wipes my tears, and loves me even if I’m having a bad day. He’s patient, caring, a good leader, and I’m the luckiest girl to have him as my husband.

What do I wear???

I get asked this question constantly. Now that it’s my turn to pick out outfits for my own family portraits, it reminded me how difficult it can be to figure out what to wear. There’s so much time and thought that goes into a portrait session (and expense) that you want to make sure you make good selections.

Here’s some helpful hints:

*Choose timeless clothing. Stay away from busy patterns and prints (and logos).

*When coordinating family photos, choose a few colors and wear different items but don’t be “matchy matchy.”

*Wear clothing that fits. Too loose and too tight clothing can make a person look larger than they are. Also, keep in mind body style when choosing an outfit. I may LOVE white pants, but squeezing my big booty in them just looks BAD.

*When dressing kids, bright colors are fun!!! Don’t be afraid to be bold!!!

*In general my photography style is very relaxed, so stick with fun relaxed clothing. Nothing says “stiff family photos” quite like stiff clothing.

*Jeans almost always photograph well.

*There’s NOTHING wrong with going through your closet and picking out clothes that you already own and coordinating with those. Often people think that they need brand new clothes for a session, but it’s just not true. My favorite portraits of my own kids are of them in clothing that I didn’t buy specifically for a portrait session, but chose at the last minute from their closet when doing photos.

*Wear clothing that is YOU (or your child). Wear something that represents who you are and your own unique style.

*Accessories are awesome. Scarves, jewelry, etc. etc. They complete the outfit and pull it all together.

* babies photograph best in “baby” type clothing. Onesies, simple outfits, and even in just a diaper cover!

Our dog is like a child to me. My husband makes fun of me to no end about this, but I can’t help it. I love our dog!!!! We got Nina when Miss K was just two years old. I’ve been super excited to photograph this little one ever since his mama told me they were expecting!!! I did their wedding photos over a year ago and it’s been so fun to watch them expand their family. I absolutely love photographing families from the wedding to their family photos.

Cash was just over two weeks when we did his photo session. He was a doll and slept almost the entire time. He was as sweet as sweet can be and totally lucky to have such cool parents.

I had a hard time giving this set a title, because honestly, these two are STUNNING people. I was sad when my “senior season” came to an end a couple of weeks ago. It’s so much fun getting to know these young adults.

First up is Miss Marriah, who is not only gorgeous, she’s SOOOOO cool and such a hard worker. While balancing school, she’s working almost full time!

Same thing with the handsome Mr. Chasen. He also works almost a TON while going to school. His parents were super cool and surprised him by borrowing a jet for a couple of hours so we could do his photo session with it. Talk about AWESOME!!!

I can’t even begin to explain how much I love the people I work with. Every single one of these sessions was a blast and the families are just incredible.

I’m about to get all blabby and emotional, so I’ll just let you get to the photos….

Miss H was one of my best friends in junior high and high school. It’s so exciting to see her expecting her first little one.

I’m off this entire weekend and it’s kinda weird to have three days off in a row. That hasn’t happened in quite awhile!!! I work when people are off work (and everywhere in between). It’s the rare occasion to be able to sit around in my jammies for an entire day and organize my closet, do laundry, and clean my house for a barbeque (like my day today).

It’s a guilty pleasure though, because I had to tell so many people “no, I’m not available on XX date or XX date.” It’s a tough position to be in when I’ve worked so very hard to be where I am in business. It’s become difficult to schedule time “off.” I love my job so much, but I love my family so much more. I don’t want to tell my kids “no” in order to tell someone else “yes.”

Anyway, enough of my random Saturday evening ramblings. I will be around come Tuesday morning if someone should need to get ahold of me. I’m not going anywhere, but I’m giving myself a mental break from work for the weekend.

And because I can’t possibly handle having a post without a photo, here’s a picture of the three kiddos that I will be spending the next couple of days with….

Here’s a few outstanding seniors that I photographed a couple of weeks ago. They’re all from the class of 2010. I have a few more blog posts of seniors to get done in the next couple of weeks before graduation.

Part of the reason I have such a hard time posting these, is that I have so much to say about how wonderful these people are. I can’t even begin to explain the awe and amazement I have of some of these young folks. They’re determined, they’re smartand they’re just really cool!!! (I know, my lame words like “cool.” Sorry, I’m old).

I could write a novel on each of them.

I’m kinda unlike a lot of the other studios and photographers in that I don’t run very many sales or specials. SOOOOOO, due to many many MANY requests, I’m having a special. Now that senior season is slowing and I’m gearing up towards wedding season, this is my last chance to have a sale before the Christmas rush starts again.

So here’s the dealio, yo.

The mini-sessions are for up to four people. Locations can be Willow Grove beach park, Lake Sacajawea, Tamo-Shanter Park, or at my studio!

Sessions will last 20-30 minutes. It can be for a high school senior, business head shots, kids, families, couples, engagement, babies, dogs, etc!!

You can add extra people for $30 each. Mini-sessions are only held during the weekdays. Do not worry, though, I will have evening appointments available for those who work during the day.

Spots are limited and will only be booked through June 18th (special is not available for sessions after that date).

I’m loving all these little babies that have super duper cool parents who call me and want me to photograph them. Seriously,

BEST JOB EVER.

I get to hold and snuggle and photograph little tiny babies all the time. I get to capture their newness so mom and dad can look back and remember how small they once were.

It’s amazing how quickly they grow from the time I do the session to two weeks later when we do the ordering appointment. I can’t even get over how quickly they change in that short of time. As a mama myself I realize how time flies by too quickly.

See I’m getting all emotional again. It’s probably the fact my daughter will be turning eight next month and “the baby” is potty training and not even a baby anymore.

Sigh.

Okay on to non-emotional things.

These baby photos might make you cry as well. I dunno…..

This little precious guy was SOOOOOO perfect and sleepy for his session. He fell asleep right away and was a perfect subject.

(I think I”m in love with the new green background. If you couldn’t tell by now, I like Lemons and green. Oh and coffee and chocolate if you’re really interested in the goofy details of Jenica’s life. HAHAHA!!)

I love the super close ups of the face. The cute little lips, the peaceful sleep look.

I’ve had a record amount of sessions lately. I’m getting closer and closer to hiring a staff member just to keep up. I would like to publicly thank my AWESOME and amazing husband for doing all the dishes and cooking. Without him, I think I would lose my mind! He’s taken up the hobby of creating delicious meals and I’m taking up the hobby of gaining weight from those meals. It’s fun for everyone! (minus the whole pants getting tighter sort of thing….)

Anyhoo, I love love LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE my clients for being not only gorgeous, but amazing people to work with. So thank you all!!!

The title says it all!!!

In the midst of my “I don’t get any sleep cuz I’m up late editing late every night” busy season, I figured since there’s NO possible way I’d catch up on blog posts that I’d post a whole bunch of favorites in one long post. So here’s a high school senior, a family session, and two engagement sessions all in one post!

Exciting, right??!!!!!

I keep saying that “once things slow down I’ll post more” but so far it hasn’t happened yet. I feel soooooo incredibly blessed that people keep calling and keep booking. I figured they’d get to know my crazy silly self and eventually people would stop calling. But NOOOOOOO, God is amazing and has kept my business growing and thriving. He is amazing and I don’t even deserve it. Though busy, my life is perfect.

It’s been at least a month or so since I updated with photos of my own babies. I am not a diary writer or a baby book mom, so I blog about our lives. I save all of my posts so one day I can look back and read what they were up to. I’ve been called “unprofessional” for writing about my kiddos, but I’m not too worried about it. I’m a mom and a photographer, so this is just me. My kids are such a huge part of my life that I can’t imagine how boring my site would be without my random posts about them. Besides, I’ve never been too worried about what other people think anyway!! LOL!

So…. for the grandparents and aunties and uncles who are wondering what they look like now… here’s the spring 2010 update!!

Miss K

she’ll be 8 in July.

I feel old.

She’s the smartest 7 year old I’ve ever met.

We just found out she made it into the gifted program in our school district!! I’m soo happy and excited for her!!!

We knew she was unlike most kids when she would hide in the bathroom late at night with the light on trying to read.

In case you’re wondering, no she doesn’t get it from me.

She writes WAY better than I do and will probably be my proofreader very soon.

Tinker.

I had to promise him another 30 minutes of playing baseball outside to get this smile.

totally worth the bribe.

He loves this hat so much he sleeps with it every night.

He only wears shirts that have something to do with baseball on it.

Every waking moment he has either a bat, a ball, or a glove in his hand.

His favorite movie is the Sandlot.

Has an infectious giggle and the ability to make anyone smile at any given moment.

Loves to do whatever his big brother is doing (so currently he loves baseball as well)

LOVES to eat. Like seriously, is only one size smaller than his big brother who is two years older than him.

I’m worried for when he turns into a teenager and brings over his football playing buddies over to eat me out of house and home.

We’re starting to save our pennies now.

Last but not least, my dog Nina. She’s rarely written about, but after watching Marley and Me and bawling my eyes out I decided to take some photos of her.

She’ll be six this next September. She’s pretty darn cute if you ask me.

Okay, I’m a bad blogger. I’m sorry. I SWORE I wouldn’t be one of those people, but I guess it just happens. Sadly, I’ve ran out of time in my day and not every session can be blogged. I guess I knew that time would come, but I’m having difficulty coming to grips with it. I HATE to make people feel left out if I don’t post their session.

So, that being said, I will still post as much as I can, but now being 14 sessions behind in blogging, I just have to accept the fact that it can’t happen. I have to make sure everyone gets their photos done and edited in a timely fashion as well as receiving their prints SUPER FAST like I promise.

This wedding was SOOOO much fun to photograph. Not only was it in a cool location, but it was my cousin getting married!!!

My cousin Sarah met the man of her dreams, Chris and they decided to get married on the Washington Coast in Oysterville, WA.

They are truly meant for each other and getting to be their photographer was quite the honor. Sarah is only a year younger than me, so we grew up playing barbies together quite often (don’t laugh, it was cool. LOL). I spent more time with my cousins as a kid than regular friends, so we’re all really close to one another.

This little darling baby girl was such a good sleeper!!! She konked out right at the beginning of the session and was absolutely wonderful to work with.

It’s senior season again!!!!! I am loving all these sessions lately, it’s a blast!! Not to mention, I get to photograph some incredible (not to mention beautiful) people.

I remember back in my day there were only a few options for senior portraits. You either went to someone’s studio, had photos by the lake, or there was one really cool studio up North that had this really awesome old beat up truck as a prop (yes, I hired them for THAT prop. I do hope to own one myself someday).

Anyway, my point….. I like finding out what a senior REALLY wants for their photos. It’s a fun challenge figuring out what kind of session they want.

When I graduated ten years ago (yes, I’m getting older and less cool) I just wanted to be different. I wanted something fun and unique. I strive to do that for my seniors now.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks between seniors, new babies, engagement sessions, a wedding, and all the other crazy stuff I do. I’m finally caught up on editing, but WAY behind on posting these beautiful life’s moments.

The hubster and I are finally taking a weekend off (no sessions for me, and no work for him). I think it’s been about six months since we’ve had an uneventful, non-working weekend. I’m going to “un-plug” and do crazy things like watch television for hours on end and read for a change.

I have been looking forward to my weekend off for the past month. WHOOT!!!!!!!

SOOOOOO, I’ll be back to my regular blogging schedule come Monday and Tuesday (so keep checking back then!).

This sweet baby was absolute perfection for her session. She was only four days old (and though I didn’t photograph her mama, she looked AMAZING for just having a baby).

Speaking of baby girls, I just found out I’m getting a NIECE!!!!!!!!!! Yup, had to throw that one out there since I’m soooooo excited. My big brother (by 18 months) and his wife are expecting their first baby and just found out yesterday that “there are no boy parts!” Yay for fun frilly things and me getting off the hook for having another one. Of course hubby said “but it’s not OURS!” (he wants another baby girl so bad but I’m a little too busy with kiddos as it is). I won’t lie, he’s wearing me down. He’s now cooking and doing all the dishes… hard to resist such an awesome hubster.

Every once in awhile I get to do a “day after” session for couples. In this case, it was one year ago that this beautiful couple tied the knot. They now have a beautiful little girl and were awesome enough to hire me to capture these moments for them!

I can’t even begin to explain how much I loved this couple, their daughter, and this session. When they first called me to book, I was over the moon excited!!!

I absolutely adore this family!! We met up at Lake Sacajawea (a favorite location of mine) and had a family photo session for them.

I was so incredibly happy that we had the session on a day when the weather was perfect. Like right now it’s 60 degrees outside and sunny!

Oh how I’ve missed this beautiful weather. I can’t wait until I can start doing most of my sessions outside!!!

My middle son is four today. He’s quite the character and has the ability to make people smile. He gives the best hugs and crawls into my lap all the time just to “snuggle.” He’s also the most strong willed child out of our three and takes a bit extra time and care convincing him that he needs to be doing something else rather than what he’s set his mind to. You parents know what I’m talking about hehe.

He’s very into baseball and has recently taken to sleeping with his baseball glove and ball. Apparently they will get lost unless you bring them into bed He’s a collector of things and runs around with pez dispensers, his car collection, and now he’s working on collecting all things baseball related.

Happy birthday little man!!! I love you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much.

This little mister was just over a week old and “as cute as a bug’s ear” (that’s what my dad always used to say when something was super cute).

He was a good little sleeper and we were able to get a good variety of photos. It’s funny how I try so hard to get them to go to sleep yet the wide awake shots are sometimes my favorites. To get a newborn baby looking without crossed eyes is a feat in itself.

I can’t get over how many new babies there have been lately!!! How exciting!!

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing them OUTSIDE last week. Yes, I said outside. It’s a wonderful feeling, being outdoors again. I finally felt like I was “home” after all these months cooped up in the studio. It was a perfect day and I had a perfect family to photograph.

We finished the newborn portion of the session in the studio, of course, since it was about 50 degrees outdoors and getting baby to sleep outside just wasn’t going to happen on a day like that day. The adventure outdoors wore her out and we got lots of beautiful sleepy shots inside.

Thank you so much for letting me capture your memories. I truly love my job.

Last week I read a story on one of my photographer friend’s blog that affected me more than I could have imagined. The photographer is Christy Lacy and the story was about a little girl named Layla Grace.

She is a little girl who is dying of cancer. She’s the same age as my youngest son. I can’t even begin to explain how reading her story saddens me.

I normally don’t read about stories like these. It breaks my heart too much as a mama of young children. But for whatever reason this little girl has affected me tremendously. Layla’s time is very short. She may live a few more hours or a few more days but her body is shutting down and these are the last moments her family has with her.

Please join me in praying for comfort and peace for Layla and her family.

Little miss K was a fighter, but we wore her out and she finally fell blissfully asleep. People always think that I have some magic touch with getting babies to sleep, but honestly it’s a lot of time and patience (and making baby comfy). Miss K was simply perfect.

Taking photos of precious little newborn girls is sure not helping me decide not to have any more kiddos.

These little girls were absolutely perfect. When the mom called asking about a twin newborn session, I jumped up for joy!!! I figured it would be a challenge dealing with two little ones, but they were actually easier than my single newborn sessions!! It was the perfect session and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Just a few days ago, our friend, Joey Gemar passed away in a horrible tragedy.

Both Derrick and I grew up with Joe and went to school with him for many years. I had many classes with him and always considered him a friend growing up. He always made everyone laugh and was as energetic as they come.

I took one single photo of him at a wedding just a year and a half ago. At the time, Joey asked if I would take a picture of him since he didn’t have any professional pictures of himself since he graduated high school. Had I known what was to be, I would have taken a million more.

Thanks for always making us smile, Joey. We’ll see you on the other side.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gemar family during this difficult time. If any of you need ANYTHING, just let me know.

My girl is now 7.5 years old. You can’t forget the .5 because you know, “mom, I’m seven and a HALF.”

Funny story:

I took her antique shopping with me one day since she got out of school early and I had a session reschedule. We were browsing around and I said “make sure you’re VERY careful and don’t touch anything” Not two seconds later I was looking at an old box and all of the stuff inside fell out and made a huge noise. She then turned to me and said, “and you told ME not to touch anything??!!!”

Of course she said it pretty loud and the gal standing near us started laughing.

Yup, that’s my smarty pants. I love her SOOOOOOO much.

This little angel slept for THREE hours during our session. He was a one in a million baby and I could have photographed him all day!!! He’s the youngest of four kids and fits right in, I’m sure.

I had a blast with these two for their engagement session!!! They traveled all the way down from Seattle on a Saturday. The day happened to be RAINY (of course, LOL). So instead of rescheduling, we made it work. They were such troopers while we went from location to location finding fun spots to photograph in that wouldn’t leave them soaking wet. I think it ended up being a really amazing session and I couldn’t have planned it more perfectly.

They are getting married in July and I can’t wait for their wedding!!!!

70 years of marriage….

I had the opportunity to spend a morning with this beautiful couple, Orrin and Betty. They will be celebrating their 70th anniversary in September. Yes, that’s SEVENTY years.

When I was contacted to do this session I was overjoyed with the opportunity to meet such a couple. It’s a rare thing for people to be married that long, let alone still being in love. Just watching the two of them interact brought tears to my eyes. They practically finished each other’s sentences and would gaze at each other lovingly while the other was talking.

I took photos and they told stories of their lives. They have three children, eight grandchildren, a “whole bunch” of great grandkids, and one great great granchild.

My life forever changed when meeting these two. I hope someday to celebrate my 70th anniversary with my hubby.

Just a warning, these two may melt your heart and make you cry. Have tissues handy….

I can’t believe it’s been two years since my little guy was born. It’s gone by so fast!!!! He came just 55 minutes late for my own birthday. I guess he just wanted his own day.

He’s the calmest and most loving of my three little ones. He’s the type that will sit in your lap to give you hugs and talk to you. Whenever you give him something he always asks for more so he can share with his brother and sister. He’s got such a sweet spirit about him.

I wish I could have chosen on image per session, but since this year was so busy it was impossible to do. It’s definitely not a bad problem to have!!

This little guy was an absolute dream baby!!!

He hardly fussed and slept almost the whole time. According to his parents, he’s a pretty calm little guy. He only fusses when he’s messy or hungry (boy did they get lucky).

It’s no secret that newborns are my favorite subjects. I think it’s because my three are all out of the baby stage now and it’s so precious to hold a new baby and photograph them. This stage goes by so quickly and as a parent you don’t quite realize it until they’rebigger. Photos are the only way to freeze that time.

Okay, okay, I won’t get all emotional about photos and how much they mean to me. I’ll save that sob story for later.

As a photographer it’s often difficult to choose photos for my own walls. I’m taking photos constantly and taking the time to edit and order them is sometimes last on my priority list.

Since it’s the holiday break, I’ve had a bit more time to work on my own personal projects. A few nights ago I made this collage with some of my favorite photos from 2009.

It’s funny choosing my own photos, because often my favorites are the ones that are technically imperfect. They are the ones when my kids are just being themselves.

I ordered this as a framed 12X12 print!! I’ve already got a spot picked out for it. So here’s to a 2010 full of new pics on my walls!!!

I love these two people. Not only is Lindsey a great friend, she’s also my kid’s evening babysitter. She’s the one that cleans up my kids’ messes, feeds them, bathes them, and keeps them happy while I’m away working. She also makes me cookies and sends me home with chocolate to keep me sane.

She’s been such a blessing to me and my family. My kids always look forward to going to her house and I of course adore her more than words can express. I’ve been doing mr. G’s photos since he was a newborn and I always look forward to our sessions. This was the first time Lindsey got involved and I hope she loves these photos as much as I do.

Thank you a billion times over for loving and caring for my kids.

The best Christmas present – Vancouver newborn photography

When this couple called to book a session, the dad excitedly told me that after a very long time, they had finally been able to adopt a little girl. It was a long process full of lawyers and ups and downs. The day he called was the day that she was officially theirs (well 99% completed anyway). We chit chatted and set a date for a couple days later and I got to meet their precious little girl. She was an absolute joy and watching them with their little baby girl just brought tears to my eyes. They were perfect for each other.

She truly is the best Christmas present.

Eclectic Styles – Longview Washington Hair Salon

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m completely clueless when it comes to hair (and clothing for that matter).

When it comes to getting my hair cut and styled I have to have someone hold my hand through the process. There’s usually a conversation that happens along the lines of “so, what do you want done to your hair?” I usually respond with “uh… I have no idea… just make it look good.” Sometimes that response has ended in some pretty bad haircuts. Some were good, some HORRID. When I moved here four years ago I had to search for a stylist who could work with someone so “special” as myself. After a few bad haircuts and almost resorting to doing it myself, my dear mom (love you mom) told me that her good friend’s daughter was a stylist. So I went and tried her out and fell in love. She’s been holding my hand ever since. She’s now my daughter’s stylist as well.

A year ago Shae (my stylist extraordinaire) and some other gals decided to open up a shop on their own. Eclectic Styles was then born. Since that time I’ve done photos for many of the babies of eclectic styles. You may recognize the mom of the famous tongue sticking out superman baby and the mom of the gorgeous newborn with the flower hat. One of the other gals is my boy’s stylist and we’re trying to convince the hubby that he should go to a salon instead of a barber.

Yes I love these girls. Not only do they do AMAZING hair, they’re also really fun people. I was super excited when they asked me to do their photos for their advertisements and for posting in the salon.

I get that comment a lot about my daughter and I.

Whether looks or personality, according to other people she’s like me. Of course when it comes to her analytical mind she’s exactly like her father. If you’ve ever read my blog post about her correcting my grammar mistakes, you’ll understand. It’s tough when your seven year old can write better than you.

Lately I’ve been dragging (er…. bringing…) her to the studio when I have sessions or ordering appointments. She’s pretty quiet when given a book and has been known to make a few kids smile here and there. Mostly she just likes the time away from her little brothers. Of course, I have asked her to help me with taking out the garbage a time or two, but the kid has to learn responsibility sometime!

A few nights ago I brought her with me and she helped me test the lights before my session arrived. We had a bit of fun and this is what we got. Gotta love her silly self.

I LOVE this family.

Okay, well it’s probably because they’re family of ours. Mr. R is my hubby’s cousin. He’s the brother to this beautiful bride.

They live in Nashville, TN and came all the way to have me photograph them!! HAHA kidding. I’m not that cool.They came for Christmas but I got to steal them away to do a session. This is the first time I’ve gotten to meet their newest addition. He’s now four months old and the cutest little thing. He was a really good sport about having his photos done. He didn’t even fuss once!!!

This little guy is the baby from this gorgeous mama. He’s the fourth baby in this adorable family. His older siblings are simply perfect and he fits right in. Okay so while I do like studio stuff, my heart is really into the outdoor sessions. This is one of my best friends and her family. She’s totally cool and let’s me pick where we went.

I took them out to one of my favorite spots near my studio in downtown Kelso. It was super cold, but we managed and the boys were totally awesome. I’ve photographed the boys since they were really tiny. They are the same ages as my two sons and my oldest boy (who’s almost four) says they are his best friends. They go to the same school and we have plans of them playing ball together.

Estetica Day Spa….

A few weeks ago I was contacted by the gals who own Estetica Day Spa for some commercial work. I was very excited for the opportunity to work with another small business here locally.

Estetica Day Spa is located at 1146 Commerce Avenue (inside Pals hair salon) in downtown Longview.

I started out with head shots of the owners and then I took some photos in the spa. They offer a ton of services and I’m incredibly happy that I get to try them out tomorrow with my very first facial!! (can you tell I’m a little excited?!!!)

Next on my list is a massage. After all this Christmas craziness, I think that will be perfect!!

My insane Christmas season is now slowing down. I’m not even close to being up to date with blog posts. I hope the next few weeks will allow me some time to show you some of the fun sessions that I’ve done and haven’t posted!

Last weekend after a big round of mini sessions, I stole my brother and sister-in-law for a few photos. Mostly for my own sake because I want a huge photo of them on my wall. In my old age I get all emotional about that sort of stuff. The most updated photo of them I have currently in my house is from their wedding four years ago (or was it five?? gosh, I don’t remember).

Anyhoo…. here’s my GORGEOUS sister-in-law and my most handsome brother….

I photographed this ridiculously gorgeous family on Saturday afternoon! This was one of three sessions I had that day and I kept praying it would stay dry so we could stay outdoors. Oh my goodness, this little guy cracked me sooooo much. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard while editing photos. I knew during our session that I had caught some goofy ones, but didn’t realize the extent of it until I uploaded the files to work on.

WHEW!!! Things have been crazy busy around here for the holiday season. I haven’t been able to blog every session, so I apologize for the lack of postings lately.

I did a bunch of mini sessions on Saturday and while I don’t have time to post them, I did a couple of sessions that included dogs!! Now I’m not new to photographing dogs, but since having my new studio, this was my first time photographing dogs in the studio!!

It was such a fun experience. I hope more folks with their furry friends come in to see me!!

At least once a year I take my kiddos out for a fun session of the three of them. Sometimes I’m successful and sometimes I’m not. Thankfully this time I was. Of course, I couldn’t have done it without my awesome assistant Amanda. Thank you lady!!!

My daughter is how I got started in the photography business. She and my boys are still my favorite subjects. Although doing sessions with them seem to get more difficult as the years go by. I think they are done with mom taking their photos

I have a confession to make.

I loathe most normal boring family photos. I take them quite often and I have them displayed of my own family around my house. Not that there’s anything bad about these photos, it’s just…

Boring.

What I REALLY love is the moments between families that aren’t perfect. Real smiles, comfortable clothing, and lots of laughter. I love the moments that make you smile or even cry. The REAL moments in life. I love the photos that are perfectly imperfect.

I had the pleasure of photographing a family this last week that wanted those moments of laughter and playing. Of course we took plenty of “normal” photos (and those are always great too), but in this post I’m going to show you moments that I captured that I love.

This was one of those sessions that I loved so much I wish it was my own family in the photos.

Most kids are pretty shy when they first meet me. It takes a few minutes to warm up and we play games and have fun so they can get to know me better. This little girl wanted nothing to do with me…

This couple is so incredibly fun!!!!!! Oh my goodness I couldn’t help but laugh during most of our session. I’m doing their wedding next July and I can’t WAIT!!!! They seriously get my humor and it’s oh so refreshing to work with fun people!

We combined their engagement session with a family session as well. Their boys are adorable and quite the little heart breakers!

I absolutely adore this couple. They are fun, they are fashionable and they are so in love. I was so excited when they asked me to do this session. I KNEW it would be a blast!! I was totally right and we spent a good two hours running around downtown Longview for these images.

Okay I know I say that I LOVE a session (a lot) but really, I LOVED this session. Everything about it was just perfect.

I absolutely adore these kids and their mama. They are the most well behaved little ones I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Their mama is expecting a fourth little one due at the end of the month. Of course I am excited since it means I get to do a newborn session! Newborns are my absolute favorite subjects to photograph if you didn’t know that already. Of course I love most types of photography, but there’s something about newborns that makes my heart melt into a puddle.

Mrs. B asked me to do a maternity session with her and her little ones. I was more than excited for a chance to work with them again.
