As a mom of a young impressionable girl this video really hit home. Self esteem issues affect almost every woman I know. I battled with an eating disorder while in high school and it wasn’t until a few years ago that I became okay with how God made me. I’m one of the few women I know that is okay with herself. Most every friend of mine wishes they could be smaller, stronger, faster, weigh twenty pounds less, have a smaller nose, etc, etc, etc. Sure there are things we all wish we could change, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. I want Miss K to grow up happy with herself. I don’t ever want her to feel as though she’s not good enough. I hated my body and couldn’t stand the site of myself in a mirror. I figured it out much later that it was because I was taught there was only one kind of beauty (and I was not that kind).  It’s sad to think about how many women feel that way about themselves.

So for all you gals reading this

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL JUST AS GOD MADE YOU!

*Oh and don’t watch this with little ones around. It’s got a bit of sensitive material in it.

  • Kudos for posting this, Jen. I am a fan of Dove, and happy that someone in the “industry” is trying to make some in-roads against the message of unattainable beauty.

  • I’ve seen this before and it is so true! I have all boys and am equally worried about teaching them that women are not objects. Even if they are displaying themselves as such, it does not give them the right to treat or think of them that way. Explain that to a teenage boy.

In such a women’s lib world it’s amazing to me the way women jump on the bandwagon of displaying themselves as objects, sex objects nonetheless. Don’t just reduce yourself to nothing but also violate yourself in the most intimate of ways. I saw in Ladies Home Journal a few months ago that a bunch of prominent business women in the south stripped for some pictures to raise money for an animal shelter. I can’t even comprehend that so many seemingly intelligent women would make such an incompetent decision. Incredible.
